The only thing you need to be aware of is the equipment. Some states have restrictions on certain lights or markings. In Pennsylvania, you can’t have red or blue lights visible from the front of the vehicle, and you can’t have any equipment that could be mistaken for an active police vehicle. Most of that gets removed before sale, but if something’s still on there, we’ll let you know what needs to come off.

Here’s the thing: those miles aren’t the same as commuter miles. A lot of police vehicle mileage comes from idling, which is easier on the engine than stop-and-go city driving. These vehicles were also maintained on strict schedules—oil changes, brake inspections, fluid checks—because departments can’t afford downtime.
That said, they were worked hard. If you’re comparing a Police Interceptor at 120,000 miles to a civilian Explorer at 120,000 miles, the Police Interceptor was built with heavier-duty parts from the factory. Bigger alternator, better cooling, reinforced suspension. It’s not a perfect comparison, but in most cases, the police version holds up better over time.
